In a nutshell and taken from their website, Tornado Twins have, 'Cleverly made a vast library of prefabs (coded art presets) that allow you to make any type of game you want using the Unity3D game engine. All prefabs are very easy to integrate and have tutorials that come with this.' This is great for beginners or people who want to quickly concept an idea. They plan to release six packs which contain; - Camera / Control Setups - Ai - Particle Effects - Player Setups - Twitter and Facebook Implementation. So far the only pack to be released is the Camera / Control Setups pack, within it includes FPS and RTS Camera Kits. The FPS kit for example includes features such as Adjustable Head-Bobbing, a Gun Model and Adjustable Jump, Walk and In-air Speeds. These packs arn't free however, to purchase the FPS kit alone costs $9.99 which admittedly is quite a reasonable ask. The question is, is it worth buying this over learning how to implement these features yourself? I will have to investigate to find out, my theory is that learning how to use the code and the models through the tweakable variables and by essentially reverse engineering will definitely prove to be beneficial and as for quickly sketching ideas it could be much faster to use some of these kits instead of creating it all yourself and from scratch. What are your thoughts on this idea, worthwhile or worthless? |
