Arma 2 Mod Guide
Written by Darren Gregory

Bohemia seem to be a company that's doing things the way we like. Rather than gushing out pricey DLC, they have embraced their mod community. As with the first game, Arma Armed Assault the mod community patched up and added many features that allowed the game to become more than the buggy mess it started out as.The quality of the mods for the original Arma was such that Bohemia have incorporated many features that were implemented in them, for example the SLX mod by Solus, stands out as a major influence.

The modification system in Arma 2 seems to be more modular in layout allowing users to mix and match different aspects of sound and graphic mods together for example; VOP Sound offers some great effects but the lower caliber guns sound too bassy on my system so I replaced those weapons with ones from the Sound of War mod. I then added the single changes released by HiFi for the a10 and the Tracked Vehicle mod and you have a robust soundscape that really causes some panic moments and general badassery. (Crikey! - Ed)

Installation

Though we recommend using a launcher like Alpinestars, Which allow you to easily enable or disable mods as well as intiate the many parameters Arma offers here's a quick guide on how to install the mods for those who prefer an manual method.

-Go to your main Arma folder (c/program files/bohemia interactive/arma)

-Create a new folder named @sound

-Copy the contents of the zip file you downloaded for the mod into the new folder. It's worth noting that alot of mods now come already in the right file layout. Sometimes you will have to make sure the mod folder contains a sub-folder called addons.

-Create a new shortcut of the main .exe (right click on arma.exe and create shortcut)

-Right click on the new shortcut, go to properties. Navigate to the target bar and write -mod=@sound after the inverted commas. It will look something like this: “C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA \arma.exe” -mod=@sound-nosplash

-nosplash gets rid of the intro sequence

-You can also daisy chain mods together. Like most mods they may not get along well, but say you wanted chammy’s mod and arma effects then you’d be aiming for arma.exe” -mod=@sound-nosplash -mod=@ae

It is the same technique with all the mods.

All you have to do for most common mods is make sure that after the target equals ( = )the the (@filename) you want to use. This method works for the original Arma  as also.

You may get a file with .bikey this is the server key and is used for the mod to action online there’s a folder called keys in the main folder which holds these files.

The rather  mental WarFx mod

Island Panthera  Offers a nice change for those tired of the muddy greens of Chernarus.
