Bit Fortress

Bit Fortress is a vertical shooter developed by Davioware, the game was built using the Construct engine and is one of the strongest examples of good game design which has come from it. Currently the game is available through demo format links to which are provided at the end of the article.

Davioware has a strong shooter engine to work with in Bit Fortress, he has developed a unique visual style which takes inspiration from the 8-bit era as well as some of the more psychedelic styling of a Llamasoft game. The music is a rainbow of crude-waveform melody and every element to the visuals pulses with a disco-neon glow. As to be expected with most vertical shooters, the difficulty is tough but this might be due to the looseness of the controls.You control the game using the mouse, where you move your mouse the ship follows and by left clicking you fire. There is a slight lag between where you move your mouse and how fast the ship follows but this is not necessarily a fault even though it does increase the difficulty of the game. There are keyboard controls available and multiple difficulty settings so its easy to find a sweet spot in the difficulty.

 I look forward to a final release to this game and I am excited to see how Davioware experiments with the formulae, as a Construct developer myself I can say that the use of 3D for the backgrounds is technically impressive and the background also adds an interesting dynamic to what would be an otherwise flat presentation. This is a solid, interesting and fun game and is among the first successful developments of a Construct project.
