Cut It

Cut-ItCut It, the level based puzzle game by the ever experimental Petri Purho is a game in which you harness physics and gravity to do your bidding in getting a white block to a green platform using an interesting mix of making cuts in objects and preying they fall the way you want them to.

Recently there have been a spate of games in which you take control of a pair of scissors and cut blocks, Splitter and Splitter 2 are the two that come to mind straight away, in fact I thought I was playing a clone of Splitter, but when I played on a for a bit longer I realised that they were different in more ways than they were the same.

Cut-it-ScreenieYes, both games have you cut things to get one thing from A to B but in Cut It you are much more likely to fail. I'm not saying that Cut It is a bad game in comparison to Splitter but I am saying that it is much harder, for numerous reasons.

In Cut It when you take your scissors across the object you want to cut, a number of things can happen: the cut can go smoothly, the cut won’t even register or my personal favourite grievance the cut you make won’t register where you put it, but WILL register as a diagonal from one corner of the object to the other, which can make for some amusing but annoying level fails.

Don’t be too downhearted if you can’t get through a level, the space bar is your reset button, which, if you are anything like me, comes in very handy indeed. Not only because your solution wasn’t the correct solution (which more often than not becomes evident after the first two or three times you try a way to get your white block to its green platform) but because you have accidentally (or purposely) cut every block in sight into little tiny chunks, which is always fun.

Cut it is still an enjoyable way to whittle away some time in your afternoon, but if you want a game that is a lot like Cut it but less prone to messing up your cuts, I would go and play Splitter or Splitter 2.
